The Brittany Spaniel (also know as Brittany) was developed in Northern France, becoming officially recognized early in the 20th century. This is a clever dog, particularly talented for hunting. Calm and obedient, he is eager to earn reward from his master. Nevertheless, the Brittany Spaniel is a lively and independently thinking dog. Cheerful and easy to handle, the Brittany can be a perfect pet. This dog is naturally intelligent, sweet-natured and cooperative. These traits greatly facilitate the teaching process, and if well socialized, Brittanys are great with other dogs. The Brittany Spaniel is loyal, devoted and an amazing hunter. Dogs that lack in mental and physical exercise tend to be hyperactive and overly sensitive.
The Brittany Spaniel is covered with a luxurious, silky and slightly curly coat. The most common colors are black and white, orange and white, liver and white. Even though this breed sheds minimally, you need to comb your pet regularly to prevent tangling and to maintain the silkiness of the coat. Bathing can be carried out on a bi-monthly basis or as needed and the ears should be cleaned out once a week.
The Brittany Spaniel is generally healthy dog breed, but like all breeds, they’re prone to Hip Dysplasia, Hypothyroidism, Epilepsy and Breast Cancer. The Brittany Spaniel has a life expectancy of 12 to 14 years.

Since this is a very energetic and active breed, it needs consistent training and affectionate but firm hand. Dogs of this breed have an independent mind. Brittanys are known to be multi-talented, and they participate in a wide variety of activities such as hunting, pointing, and retrieving.
The restless dog such as the Brittany Spaniel is not recommended for apartment life. He is suited for the house with a medium-sized yard. He really needs a lot of movement and exercise, at least an hour of vigorous exercise every day.
