Parson Russell Terrier was first recognized in the 19th century, in the United Kingdom. He is a small white terrier, specialized for fox hunting. His close relative is Jack Russell Terrier, as a matter of fact, until 2001, Parson Russell and Jack Russell Terrier were considered as the same breed with different names. Sometimes can even be found the spelling of Parson Jack Russell Terrier. However, now they are two different species, each with its own standard.

The Parson Russell Terrier is extremely strong, even in regard to its appearance. These dogs are absolutely fearless and seem to be completely unaware of their small stature. Parson Russell Terrier is not recommended for dog breeders with no previous experience. He is fearless, loyal, energetic and extremely demanding. This terrier cannot stand loneliness and boredom, and he can become destructive in the house if left alone for a long time. Parson Russell Terrier finds a common language with teens very easily and also gets along with dogs and other pets, especially horses.
At Parson Russell Terrier, there are two types of wool: hard and soft, or, it can be a tough coat with a soft brilliant undercoat. This breed sheds moderately. It is recommended to clean the dog with a brush and wash him only in case of emergency, but, at least twice a year, he needs professional trimming.
Parson Russell Terriers are well known for living long and healthy lives. The Parson Russell Terrier is generally healthy dog breed, but like all breeds, they can be prone to Legg-Calve-Perthes Disease, Patellar Luxation, Deafness, Lens Luxation and Glaucoma. The Parson Russell Terrier has a life expectancy of 10 to 15 years.
The male Parson Russell Terrier dog breed’s height is around 12 – 15 inches and weighs around 15 and 17 pounds. Female Parson Russell Terrier dogs can reach a size from 10 – 14 inches and weighs between 13 and 16 pounds.
Parson Russell Terrier is intelligent and obedient, but like any terrier, stubborn. Early socialization and obedience training is necessary. Training must be consistent and coach must be strict, yet fair. This breed needs a dominant owner.
Parson Russell Terrier is a very active dog that needs vigorous exercises. In general, this breed is suitable for living in an apartment, however, ideal environment for Parson Russell Terrier is a spacious yard with a high fence, which helps him stay in shape.
